Overview

The ResMed AirFit F30 is a full face mask for mouth breathers who'd rather keep the top of their nose clear. Its compact silicone cushion sits beneath the nostrils and wraps around the mouth, so your eyes and the bridge of your nose stay free of plastic.

Night to night, it's simple to live with. Magnetic clips attach the lower straps without fiddly buckles, and the QuietAir elbow spreads your exhaled air in a soft, wide flow. ResMed also designed it to keep you comfortable when you sleep on your side.

Key features:

  • One frame for both: The Small and Medium cushions click into the same frame, so changing size never means buying a whole new mask.
  • Gentle on the nose: The cushion stays below the bridge of your nose, the spot where larger full face masks often leave marks.
  • Quick release: Squeeze the elbow's side buttons to unhook from your hose while the mask stays on your face.
  • AirMini, with a setup pack: ResMed's F20 setup pack connects the F30 to the AirMini travel machine, though the waterless HumidX humidifier isn't available with this mask.
  • Latex free: There's no natural rubber latex, PVC or phthalate in the F30, according to ResMed, worth knowing if you react to those materials.

The F30 suits mouth breathers and side sleepers who want a full face mask that stays off the bridge of the nose. If you'd like more sizes to choose from, the AirFit F40 seals the same way with three cushion sizes.

How it works

Putting it on

Twist each magnetic clip off the frame. Place the cushion beneath your nose, ResMed logo upright and facing out, pull the headgear over your head, then bring the lower straps under your ears and clip them back on.

Pull the upper tabs and then the lower straps evenly, only until the seal feels comfortable. If the headgear sits too close to your ears, adjust the top strap. Connect your hose to the elbow and click the elbow into the frame.

Keeping it clean

After each use, take off the elbow and separate the cushion from the frame. Soak the parts in warm, mildly soapy water, shake them for a minute, brush the elbow's vent holes, rinse and air dry away from sunlight.

Wash the headgear once a week the same way, leaving the clips on the lower straps, and squeeze out the water before it dries. Replace any part that shows cracks, crazing or tears.

Features and fit

Choosing Small or Medium

The F30 has one frame and one headgear, so the only choice is cushion size. ResMed's printable template measures the width of your nose, not its length.

  • Hold it level under your nostrils, not on the bridge
  • Small fits if your nostrils stay inside its edge, otherwise go Medium
  • Both sizes click into the same frame
  • Long hair feeds through the back of the headgear
Settling the seal

Put the mask on with air flowing. ResMed's first step for a leak is to lift the cushion slightly off your face and let it settle back, then adjust the straps only enough for comfort.

  • Feel along the top and bottom edges to find a leak
  • Check that the hose isn't tugging on the elbow
  • Overtightening can leave red marks or sores, ResMed warns
How the cushion seals

The F30 cushion uses two silicone finishes, each matched to the part of your face it rests on. A thin membrane bridges the space beneath your septum, which ResMed says helps the cushion find its place and hold a steady seal.

  • Frosted silicone around the nostrils, where skin is most sensitive
  • Polished silicone along the mouth and jawline
  • Less of your face touched than with a traditional full face cushion
Machines and the AirMini

On a ResMed AirSense or AirCurve, set the mask type to Full Face. ResMed's compatibility list covers the AirSense 10 and 11 and the AirCurve 10 and 11.

  • ResMed hasn't validated it on the older S9 machines
  • AirMini: connects through ResMed's F20 setup pack, but HumidX can't be used
  • Replacement F30 headgear is sold on its own

Under-the-nose seal

Your F30 cushion meets your face below the nose and around the lips, leaving the bridge of your nose free. ResMed shaped it this way to spare that sensitive spot from pressure and red marks.

Open view

With nothing above your nose, your glasses stay on and the TV stays in view while you settle in. ResMed also says the low profile helps people who feel closed in by bigger masks.

QuietAir elbow

Exhaled air leaves through many small openings in the elbow, which breaks it into a soft, spread-out flow. In a small ResMed trial, most users said the venting barely disturbed them or their partners.

Magnetic clips

Magnets snap the bottom straps into place, and a twist sets them free. Putting it on is simple: release both, pull the headgear over your head, then reattach them under your ears.

Common questions

How often should I replace AirFit F30 parts?

ResMed suggests a fresh cushion monthly, a frame system every quarter and headgear every half year. Replace any part sooner if it cracks, tears or stops holding its shape.

Can I sleep on my side in the F30?

ResMed says the F30 keeps you comfortable on your side, and its low profile sits lower on your face than a traditional full face mask. The elbow also rotates all the way around, which helps the hose follow you when you turn over.

Will it work if I breathe through my mouth?

Yes. As a full face mask, it covers your mouth as well as sealing under your nose. That makes it worth considering if you breathe through your mouth or your mouth tends to fall open during sleep.

Should I choose the F30 or the AirFit F40?

Both seal under the nose and connect at the front. The F30 has two cushion sizes and one headgear, while the AirFit F40 offers three of each but doesn't work with the AirMini. If neither F30 size fits, the F40's wider range is worth a look.

Can I use supplemental oxygen with the F30?

ResMed says you can, with the usual precautions. Use it in a well-ventilated room, keep smoking and open flames away, and turn the oxygen off whenever the CPAP isn't running.

Do I need a prescription to buy this mask?

No. Masks don't need a prescription, so you can order this one straight away. We only ask for a prescription with CPAP machines and ventilators, before they ship.
