Overview
The ResMed AirCurve 11 VAuto is a bilevel machine for sleep apnea that lowers the pressure each time you breathe out. For people who find CPAP hard to exhale against, that difference can make therapy easier to stick with, and the pressures still adjust to you through the night.
Day to day, it's simple to live with. A touchscreen shows last night's hours and mask seal, and its hum is soft enough for a shared bedroom. The humidifier and heated tube warm the air, and myAir can walk you through setup if you'd like help.
Key features:
- Battery and power: There's no ResMed battery for Air11 machines, so plan on a wall outlet, or the DC converter in a car or RV.
- Mask leak: ResMed's Vsync keeps the machine in step with your breathing when air escapes around your mask or through your mouth.
- Mask Fit: A quick check on the screen tells you whether your mask is sealing well or needs a small adjustment before bed.
- Care Check-In: During your first month, short questions about getting used to bilevel therapy appear, followed by tips that match your answers.
- Automatic reporting: Your care provider receives each night's therapy data over the machine's own cellular link, with nothing for you to download or mail.
- Built for Canada: ResMed builds this version for the Canadian market, licensed by Health Canada and boxed with the heated tube and standard tub.
The AirCurve 11 VAuto suits people whose prescriber has moved them from CPAP to bilevel, or who need higher pressures and want exhaling to feel gentler. If one steady pressure works well for you, the AirSense 11 shares this machine's design and parts.
Note: Tubs and heated tubes from the AirCurve 10 won't work here. Pair the machine with HumidAir 11 tubs and a ClimateLineAir 11 heated tube, or any non-heated SlimLine or standard tube.
How it works
Filling the HumidAir 11 tub
Slide the tub out of the side of the machine, open the lid and fill it with room-temperature water up to the maximum line. The standard tub that ships with this machine takes distilled water only.
Each morning, ResMed suggests emptying the tub and letting it air-dry. Its user guide says to wash the tub and tube in warm water with mild dish soap once a week. The tub can also go in the dishwasher, but the tube can't.
When therapy ends
Take off your mask and therapy stops by itself if SmartStop is on, or press the button on top. The machine then keeps a gentle airflow going for a while to dry the tube, and switches off on its own.
After a power outage, therapy picks up again by itself as soon as electricity returns.

Features and settings
Bilevel and comfort settings
ResMed designed the VAuto for people who find it hard to exhale against CPAP, especially at higher prescriptions. Your provider chooses which comfort settings you can change on the touchscreen.
- Ramp starts low and rises over a set time while you fall asleep
- SmartStart begins therapy with your first breath into the mask
- Run Warmup heats the water before bed
Settings your provider controls
Your care provider sets a lowest exhale pressure and a highest inhale pressure. Inside that window the machine responds to snoring, narrowing of the airway and pauses in breathing, then eases back once they settle.
- Built on the same AutoSet approach ResMed uses in its AirSense machines
- Your provider can update settings remotely over the cellular connection
Humidity and water tubs
On Auto, Climate Control holds the air at a steady, comfortable humidity and warms the tube so condensation is less likely to form. Prefer to choose for yourself? Manual mode sets the humidity level and tube temperature separately.
- The standard tub in the box takes distilled water only
- A cleanable tub, sold separately, takes drinking-quality water
- A side cover, sold separately, lets you run without the tub
Getting started with myAir
The app is optional, since the touchscreen and Start button run your therapy without it. To pair, open the More menu on the machine and keep your phone within about 10 metres.
- Mask Fit on the touchscreen checks your seal without a phone
- Software updates arrive over the air, with nothing to install
- Your provider sees your check-in answers only if you agree
- ResMed offers myAir in English and French in Canada
Bilevel therapy
The AirCurve 11 VAuto gives you two pressures, a higher one as you breathe in and a lower one as you breathe out. Exhaling tends to feel more natural than pushing against one steady pressure.
Auto-adjusting pressure
Both pressures shift through the night as your airway needs more or less help. The gap between them stays constant, so each breath keeps a familiar rhythm while the overall support rises and falls.
Climate Control
A heated tube and a built-in humidifier work as a pair, keeping the air warm and moist so droplets are less likely to collect in your mask. Left on Auto, they adjust by themselves as your bedroom warms or cools.
myAir coaching
Pair the machine with the myAir app for spoken setup steps, help fitting your mask and a practice run while you're awake. Care Check-In adds questions about settling into bilevel therapy, with tips based on your answers.

Common questions
What's the difference between bilevel and CPAP?
A CPAP delivers one pressure whether you're breathing in or out. A bilevel like the VAuto lowers the pressure as you exhale and raises it as you inhale. ResMed built it for people who struggle to breathe out against CPAP, and your prescriber decides which one you need.
Will my AirCurve 10 water tub and heated tube fit?
No. ResMed's user guide names the HumidAir 11 tubs and the ClimateLineAir 11 tubes as the only ones that work with this machine. Non-heated SlimLine and standard tubes do fit, so an older SlimLine can come with you.
Which parts wear out, and how often should they be replaced?
ResMed's user guide says to swap the air filter every six months, sooner if it's torn or clogged. ResMed designs the standard tub and tubing to last around six months, while the cleanable tub is built for two and a half years.
Can I take the AirCurve 11 on a plane?
Yes. ResMed rates it for use in flight, provided the water tub is emptied first, and it has an airplane mode for when the cabin crew ask. For a car, boat or RV, ResMed's Air11 DC converter runs it from a vehicle outlet.
Will my current CPAP mask work with this machine?
Most likely, if it's a vented ResMed mask or one your prescriber recommends. Choose the mask setting ResMed lists for it: current nasal masks such as the AirFit N20 and N30, along with the AirFit F40, use Pillows. The AirMini versions of the AirFit N30 and P10 aren't compatible.
Do I need a prescription to buy a bilevel machine?
Yes. We need a prescription on file before a bilevel machine ships. Email or fax it to us with your order number written on it, and we'll send your machine once we have it.
