Eson 2 Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear — Cushion Size Small, Medium, or Large

The Eson 2 is a nasal CPAP mask designed for patients who breathe through their nose during sleep and want a seal geometry that accommodates movement without requiring headgear tension to compensate. It is manufactured by Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, a New Zealand medical device company whose respiratory products are used in hospital critical care and homecare settings globally — not a consumer brand repurposed for sleep therapy. The Eson 2 is compatible with all CPAP and BiPAP machines; AirMini users require a separate adapter not included with the mask.

HOW THE ROLLFIT SEAL WORKS — AND WHY IT NEEDS LESS HEADGEAR TENSION THAN A STATIC SEAL

The RollFit Seal is a silicone nasal cushion. What distinguishes it from a standard nasal mask cushion is the geometry of its base. A conventional nasal mask seal uses a flat silicone flange that compresses against the face through direct downward pressure — if the mask shifts angle during sleep, that flat flange either loses contact or the headgear must be tight enough to force it back into position. The RollFit Seal uses a different geometry: its base is curved and convex, and the connection between the silicone seal and the rigid frame is designed to allow the seal to rotate slightly — rolling forward and backward around the nasal bridge contact point. This pivot capability means that when the patient's head moves and the angle between the mask frame and the nasal bridge changes, the seal accommodates the shift by rolling rather than resisting it. Surface contact is maintained even as the frame's orientation changes relative to the face.

There is a second mechanism that reinforces this. As therapy pressure inside the cushion increases, the silicone is pushed outward against the nasal bridge and sides of the nose. Higher pressure actively helps seat the seal from within rather than depending on external headgear force to hold it in place. The result is that the headgear can be applied with meaningfully less tension than a static compression seal would require — reducing the contact pressure marks and forehead soreness that overtightened headgear produces over a full night.

The Eson 2 version of the RollFit Seal is softer, lighter, and more compact than the seal used on the original Eson, with added internal structural support for stability at higher therapy pressures. The mask is rated for use across a pressure range of 4–30 cmH2O.

THE ERGOFIT HEADGEAR — TWO WAYS TO APPLY IT AND WHAT THE STRETCHFIT METHOD MEANS IN PRACTICE

The ErgoFit headgear supports two application methods and the distinction between them matters for nightly use. The traditional method uses the adjustment clips: the patient sets the strap tension, connects the clips, and readjusts as needed. The second method — StretchFit — is what sets the ErgoFit apart. Once the headgear has been adjusted to the correct fit, the tension setting is locked in and the headgear can be stretched on and off over the head without unclipping any straps or touching the adjustment points. The patient places the mask, stretches the headgear over the back of the head, and the mask is seated at the pre-calibrated tension.

The operational significance of this is most apparent in the middle of the night. If a patient needs to remove the mask — to use the bathroom, to adjust position, or because a leak has woken them — the StretchFit method allows them to replace the mask and return to the pre-set fit immediately, without switching on a light or fumbling with clips at 3 a.m. The headgear does not need to be recalibrated between uses once the initial fit has been established.

THE FRAME, THE CUSHION, AND THE DIFFUSER — HOW THE THREE COMPONENTS WORK TOGETHER

The Easy Frame is a single universal size. It does not come in Small, Medium, or Large — there is only one frame, and it accommodates all three cushion sizes. When you select Small, Medium, or Large at checkout, you are selecting cushion size only. The frame is not part of that decision.

The frame uses VisiBlue colour cues — blue markers at key assembly points — to indicate correct orientation and connection when attaching the cushion to the frame and the frame to the headgear. These visual guides reduce the chance of partial connections that look assembled but are not fully seated.

The elbow diffuser is the component at the hose connection point that disperses exhaled air. It is washable and reusable — not a disposable part. The mask operates at approximately 31 dBA at the cushion; the diffuser reduces that to approximately 21 dBA by breaking up the exhaled air stream. The diffuser attaches to the elbow between the hose and the frame and should be cleaned regularly as part of the standard mask maintenance routine.

WHO THE ESON 2 IS DESIGNED FOR — AND WHEN A NASAL MASK IS NOT THE RIGHT CHOICE

The Eson 2 is a nasal mask. Therapy air enters through the nose only — the mouth is not part of the breathing pathway. This means the mask is appropriate for patients who reliably breathe through their nose during sleep. It is not appropriate for patients who breathe through their mouth during sleep unless used in combination with a chin strap to keep the mouth closed; without that, mouth breathing during therapy depressurizes the airway and defeats the therapy.

Within the nasal mask category, the Eson 2 is well suited to several specific situations. Active sleepers and side sleepers who change position frequently benefit from the RollFit Seal's angular accommodation — the seal does not require the mask to remain in a fixed orientation relative to the face. Patients prescribed higher therapy pressures benefit from the pressure-assisted sealing mechanism, which becomes more effective as pressure increases rather than less. Patients with facial hair — beards or heavy stubble — benefit because the Eson 2's seal contacts the nasal bridge and the sides of the nose rather than the upper lip; seal designs that require an upper lip contact point are vulnerable to beard growth disrupting the seating surface, whereas the Eson 2's geometry avoids that contact zone entirely. Patients who want a clear line of sight before bed, or who have reported feeling claustrophobic with full face masks or masks that extend across the nose bridge, typically find the Eson 2's compact profile more tolerable.

SIZING — WHY CUSHION SIZE IS THE ONLY CHOICE YOU NEED TO MAKE

Because the Easy Frame is universal, the only variable in this listing is cushion size: Small, Medium, or Large. Cushion size is determined by the physical dimensions of the nose — specifically the width and vertical height of the nose at the bridge and nostril. A cushion that is too small will lift away from the nasal bridge at the top; one that is too large will cause the seal to buckle inward at the sides.

Fisher & Paykel provides a printable Sizing Gauge PDF for the Eson 2, which can be printed at full scale to measure cushion fit against the physical dimensions of the nose before ordering. The MyMask App, available on iOS and Android, provides guided video fitting instructions with step-by-step visual confirmation.

One sizing note based on patient experience: the Eson 2 cushion sizing tends to run slightly large relative to nasal masks from other manufacturers. If you are currently using a ResMed or Philips nasal mask and plan to carry your size across — for example, assuming that a Medium in a ResMed mask means Medium in the Eson 2 — that assumption is not reliable. Confirm your size using the Sizing Gauge before ordering. Because our return policy does not allow returns on opened mask products, confirming size before the order is placed is the only way to avoid a sizing problem after the fact. The FitPack is the alternative for patients who are not certain.

IF YOU'RE UNSURE OF YOUR SIZE — USE THE FITPACK

If you have not used the Eson 2 before, or if you are not confident in your cushion size from the Sizing Gauge, the right starting point is the Eson 2 FitPack. The FitPack includes all three cushion sizes — Small, Medium, and Large — along with one Easy Frame and ErgoFit headgear. You trial each cushion size under real therapy conditions and identify the correct fit before committing to a single-size order. Once your size is confirmed, you can reorder that cushion size through this listing. The Eson 2 FitPack is listed separately.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX AND REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE

Each Eson 2 with Headgear includes one Easy Frame (universal size), one RollFit Nasal Seal in the selected cushion size (Small, Medium, or Large), ErgoFit headgear with adjustable straps and ergonomic clips, a washable diffuser elbow cover, and the user manual. The Fitting Guide and User Guide are available for download from this page.

The RollFit Seal cushion should be replaced every one to three months depending on frequency of use and cleaning. Daily cleaning of the cushion is recommended. The ErgoFit headgear should be replaced every three to six months; with regular washing, the elastic and clips degrade over time and a stretched or weakened headgear cannot maintain consistent seal tension. Replacement cushions, headgear, and headgear clips are available separately. The mask carries a 90-day manufacturer's warranty.

AIRMINI COMPATIBILITY — ADAPTER REQUIRED

The Eson 2 is compatible with all standard CPAP and BiPAP machines. Patients using the ResMed AirMini portable CPAP should note that the AirMini requires a separate mask-specific adapter to connect to the Eson 2 — this adapter is not included with the mask and must be ordered separately before use with an AirMini.
