The AirTouch N20 For Her with Headgear is a full-perimeter nasal CPAP mask built around ResMed's UltraSoft memory foam cushion — a viscoelastic polyurethane foam that seals by conforming to facial contours rather than pressing a formed silicone shape against the face. This listing is available in Small only. That is the only frame size offered in the For Her version. Patients who need a Medium or Large frame should order the AirTouch N20 with Headgear, which uses the same UltraSoft memory foam cushion and is available in all three sizes.

HOW THE ULTRASOFT MEMORY FOAM CUSHION SEALS

Most CPAP mask cushions are made of silicone. A silicone cushion has a defined, pre-formed shape, and the seal depends on headgear tension pressing that fixed geometry against the face. How well it seals depends directly on how closely the silicone's shape matches the patient's facial contours. Memory foam works by a different mechanism entirely. The UltraSoft cushion is viscoelastic polyurethane foam — an open-cell material with no fixed shape to maintain. Rather than pressing a formed edge against the face, it deforms to fill the space between the cushion perimeter and the skin, distributing contact across a broad, soft area rather than delivering force through a narrow silicone edge. Because the foam stays in the adapted position rather than pushing back, the headgear does not need to be tightened to maintain the seal — the foam fills the contact space, and tension works against the design by compressing the foam before it has fully conformed.

At higher therapy pressures, silicone cushions tend to fail at the sealing edge: internal air pressure pushes outward against the fixed silicone shape, lifting it away from the face at the perimeter. Memory foam responds in the opposite direction. Higher internal pressure presses the foam more firmly outward against the face, increasing contact force at precisely the moment when a silicone seal would tend to lift and leak. Body heat softens the foam further over the course of a night, increasing conformity progressively as the patient sleeps. These two properties — passive conformity and pressure-assisted sealing — are why the AirTouch N20 is consistently described as performing reliably at high therapy pressures and why it is recommended for patients whose facial geometry has been difficult to seal with silicone.

WHY FOAM CANNOT BE CLEANED LIKE SILICONE

Silicone is non-porous and hydrophobic. Water beads off it, soap rinses away cleanly, and the material does not absorb liquid into its structure. Memory foam is open-cell — the same structural property that allows it to conform to the face also means water penetrates and is trapped within the cell network. Absorbed liquid does not evaporate fully between nightly uses. Residual moisture degrades the polyurethane polymer chains and creates conditions for microbial growth inside the foam body where it cannot be removed by surface cleaning.

The UltraSoft cushion must be wiped daily with a mask cleaning wipe only. Never submerge the cushion, rinse it under water, or apply any liquid cleaner to it. This is not a preference or a convenience recommendation — it is a material requirement. Introducing liquid into the foam structure shortens cushion life, compromises seal performance, and introduces hygiene risks that surface wiping cannot correct after the fact. The frame, elbow, and headgear can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap in the normal way; the cushion cannot.

WHY THIS MASK IS AVAILABLE IN SMALL ONLY — AND WHAT TO ORDER IF YOU NEED A DIFFERENT SIZE

The AirTouch N20 For Her was introduced as a targeted variant for patients with smaller facial dimensions — specifically patients whose face fits a Small N20 frame and who have found standard-sized masks too large or bulky. ResMed offers it only in Small because it is positioned for women with smaller or narrower facial features, not as a complete size range. The frame geometry is identical to the standard AirTouch N20 Small. The For Her designation reflects the headgear colorway — lavender highlights rather than blue — and the market positioning, not a distinct frame design. The UltraSoft memory foam cushion is the same material and same part as the standard AirTouch N20 cushion; the cushions are interchangeable between the two versions.

Patients who need a Medium or Large AirTouch N20 with the same UltraSoft memory foam cushion should order the AirTouch N20 with Headgear, which is available in Small, Medium, and Large.

HOW THE INFINITYSEAL CUSHION CONTACTS THE FACE

The N20 uses a full-perimeter nasal seal. The cushion contacts the face at four points: the nasal bridge at the top, both sides of the nose at the cheeks, and below the nose above the upper lip. This is a closed perimeter around the nose — different from a nasal cradle mask, which contacts only the tissue below the nose, and different from nasal pillows, which enter the nostrils. No part of the N20 cushion enters the nasal cavity, and the seal is made entirely at the outside of the nose.

The cushion uses a dual-wall construction. The outer wall provides structural shape and positions the cushion against the face; the inner wall is the actual sealing surface. Because these two walls are structurally independent, the outer wall can flex and deflect as the patient moves without the sealing surface losing contact with the skin. In the AirTouch N20, memory foam occupies this geometry — the foam conforms to individual contour variation at the bridge, cheeks, and underside simultaneously, adapting to asymmetry and surface irregularities that a formed silicone perimeter cannot accommodate. Patients with facial hair benefit from this specifically: the foam fills the gaps that facial hair creates at a silicone perimeter seal, where even fine stubble is enough to break the silicone's contact line. The mask is rated for pressures between 4 and 30 cm H2O.

THE MINIMALIST FRAME AND WHAT INTEGRATED PADDING DOES

The N20 For Her frame is flexible — it bends and adapts to facial contours rather than holding a fixed rigid shape against the face. This flexibility serves two purposes. First, it allows the frame to follow small movements during sleep without transmitting force to the cushion seal. Second, it reduces the area of hard contact between the frame itself and the face, which lowers the likelihood of pressure marks from the frame structure independent of the cushion. Integrated padding within the frame adds softness at the contact points where the frame touches the face, addressing frame-contact discomfort directly at the source rather than relying entirely on the cushion to carry that load.

The frame's low profile and minimal facial contact leave the field of view largely unobstructed. The frame sits below the eyes and does not extend across the cheeks or forehead, which allows patients to read, use a screen, or wear glasses comfortably before sleep without the mask intruding on the visual field.

PLUSH HEADGEAR AND HOW THE MAGNETIC CLIPS WORK

The Standard Headgear with lavender highlights uses rolled-edge fabric straps engineered to be worn loosely. Because the UltraSoft foam seal does not depend on headgear tension for contact force — the foam fills the space rather than being pressed into it — overtightening works against the mask's design by compressing the foam before it has adapted and by creating pressure marks the mask is specifically built to avoid. The correct fit is loose enough to allow the foam to conform naturally.

The lower headgear straps use magnetic clips that guide themselves toward the clip points on the mask frame through magnetic attraction, locking with a twist and releasing intentionally in a single motion. The mask can be put on and taken off without readjusting headgear position between uses, which matters for patients who need to disconnect during the night and reconnect without fumbling with strap adjustments in the dark.

The mask contains magnets. Patients with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, cochlear implants, or other magnetically sensitive implanted devices should consult their physician before using this mask.

THE FLEXI-TUBE AND QUICK-RELEASE ELBOW

The Flexi-Tube is a short, lightweight flexible tube built into the mask frame — it is not a separate component and is not purchased separately. It extends between the frame body and the elbow connection point, stretching and bending in use to decouple movement at the hose connection from movement at the cushion seal. Without this flex section, any tension or drag in the full-length CPAP hose transmits directly to the frame and disturbs cushion position. The Flexi-Tube absorbs that movement before it reaches the seal. For active sleepers and side sleepers, this is the mechanism that allows the hose to track body movement without pulling the mask off the face.

The quick-release elbow connects the Flexi-Tube to the standard CPAP hose via squeeze-tabs that allow one-handed disconnection without removing the mask — the patient can get up during the night, release the hose from the elbow, and leave the mask in place. The elbow rotates 360°, and an independent tube swivel adds a second axis of movement. Together these two rotational degrees of freedom reduce the force transmitted to the mask from hose tension regardless of which direction the tube is positioned or the patient is facing. Exhaled air exits through a diffused vent structure built into the elbow body rather than a directional port, dispersing airflow broadly away from the patient and bed partner rather than releasing it as a concentrated stream.

WHY THE CUSHION NEEDS REPLACING EVERY 30 DAYS — AND WHEN TO REPLACE THE REST

The UltraSoft cushion degrades from two directions simultaneously, and both processes affect seal quality independently of hygiene. Physically, nightly compression and temperature cycling cause the open-cell foam structure to collapse progressively — the foam stops returning to full thickness after each night's use, and the contact area it presents to the face decreases. A thinner, less resilient cushion creates a narrower sealing surface, and leaks that appear without any change to headgear adjustment are typically the result of this structural collapse. Chemically, skin oils and perspiration break down the polyurethane polymer network over time, making the material brittle or sticky and further accelerating the loss of conformity. Replace the cushion every 30 days. Wiping daily with a mask cleaning wipe maintains surface hygiene but does not slow the structural degradation that determines seal quality — the two processes are separate, and the replacement schedule addresses what cleaning cannot.

Replace the frame every 3 months. The flexible frame material loses its structural integrity over time, and a frame that no longer flexes correctly against the face changes how the cushion is positioned at the sealing perimeter. Replace the headgear every 6 months. The elastic in the headgear straps degrades with repeated stretching, washing, and heat exposure. Stretched headgear can no longer maintain consistent mask position without being overtightened — and overtightening creates exactly the facial pressure marks this mask is designed to prevent. Both the cushion and the headgear are available as separate replacement parts and do not require purchasing a complete new mask.
