Overview

The ResMed AirFit X30i joins soft nasal pillows that rest at your nostrils to a cushion that covers your mouth. Mouth breathers get full coverage along with the close, steady seal of pillows, with nothing at all pressing across the bridge of your nose while you sleep.

Night to night, the tube attaches up at the crown, so you can sleep on your back or side without it pulling on the seal. The vent keeps each breath out quiet, and magnetic clips make it quick to slip off and back on.

Key features:

  • Easy to settle: In a ResMed study, 96% of experienced CPAP users found it easy to fit and adjust for a reliable seal.
  • Quiet beside you: In the same study, 9 in 10 bed partners said the mask was quiet and didn't disturb their sleep.
  • Every pillow size: Each starter pack includes Small, Medium and Large pillows, so you can find your fit at home.
  • One frame, three styles: AirFit F30i and AirTouch F30i cushions fit the same frame, if you ever want to try a different style.
  • Quick release: Squeeze the two buttons on the elbow to free the hose, and keep the mask on when you get up.
  • Licensed in Canada: Health Canada lists the AirFit X30i on ResMed's F30i family licence, and you'll find its number under Specifications.

The AirFit X30i suits mouth breathers who like nasal pillows, full face mask users with a sore nose bridge, and anyone who changes position through the night. If you'd rather have soft fabric than silicone, the AirTouch F30i shares this frame and headgear.

Note: Magnets sit in the frame and in both lower headgear clips. If you or a bed partner use a pacemaker, defibrillator, or another implant that reacts to magnets, talk to us first about a mask without magnets.

How it works

Fitting the pillows and cushion

Take the elbow off and twist the magnetic clips away from the frame. Seat the pillows in your nostrils, settle the lower cushion over your mouth, then lift the frame and headgear over your head, ResMed logo upward.

Guide each lower strap beneath your ear and let its clip snap to the frame. Tighten the upper straps, then the lower ones, evenly and only until the seal holds, and click the elbow back onto the top of the frame. A crease in the lower cushion is a common cause of leaks.

Washing it each day

Every morning, pull the pillows out of the mouth cushion and let both soak for a while in warm water and a little mild liquid detergent. Wash them by hand with a soft brush, paying attention to the vent, rinse well, and shake the mouth cushion to clear water from its vent.

Let everything dry in the open air, out of the sun. Once a week, wash the frame, elbow and headgear the same way. When you put it back together, line up the arrows on the pillows and the mouth cushion, and click the pillows into place.

Features and fit

Finding your pillow size

Every starter pack holds three sizes of pillows, so you can test them over a few nights and settle on the one that feels best.

  • The lower cushion comes in a single size
  • If air escapes, swap sizes before you tighten the straps
  • ResMed publishes no sizing template for the pillows, so trying them on is how you choose
Who ResMed designed it for

ResMed built the X30i for a handful of sleepers who don't quite suit a standard mask:

  • Mouth breathers who would rather wear nasal pillows
  • Full face users who want the extra stability of pillows
  • People whose nose bridge gets irritated under a full face cushion
  • Anyone who shifts position at night or shares the bed
Frame sizes and magnets

The starter pack comes in three frame sizes, and how the frame sits on your head tells you if you have the right one.

  • Slipping back or crowding your ears: choose a smaller frame
  • Falling forward or close to your eyes: choose a bigger one
  • Magnets in the frame and lower clips hold the straps in place
  • ResMed asks you to keep them 150 mm from implants that magnets affect
Machines and spare parts

It runs on CPAP and bilevel machines. Choose Full Face in the mask settings on an AirSense or AirCurve, even though the mask seals with pillows.

  • Not compatible with the AirMini
  • AirFit F30i and AirTouch F30i cushions fit the same frame
  • Spare pillows, mouth cushions and headgear are each sold separately

Dual cushion

Soft nasal pillows rest at your nostrils while a second cushion covers your mouth. You get the steady seal of pillows plus full coverage if your mouth falls open.

Top tube

The hose connects at the crown of your head and stays clear of your face. Turn over as often as you like without the tube dragging the cushions out of place.

Bridge comfort

Nothing presses across the top of your nose, because the pillows seal at your nostrils instead. ResMed suggests it for people who need full face coverage but find bridge contact sore.

QuietAir vent

Your breath out leaves through a diffused vent in the mouth cushion, which takes the edge off both the noise and the airflow. In ResMed's study, most bed partners said it didn't disturb their sleep.

Common questions

How often should I replace the pillows and mouth cushion?

ResMed's schedule calls for fresh pillows and a fresh mouth cushion twice a month, while the frame lasts three months and the headgear six. Replace anything sooner if you notice cracks or tears, as ResMed's user guide advises.

What mask setting does my machine need?

Choose Full Face. Even though the X30i uses nasal pillows, ResMed's compatibility list puts it on the Full Face setting for AirSense, AirCurve and S9 machines. If your machine is from another maker, ask us and we'll help you find the right option.

Will it work if I breathe through my mouth?

Yes, that's who it's made for. The lower cushion covers your mouth, so your therapy carries on when your mouth falls open in your sleep. ResMed lists breathing through your mouth as the first reason to choose this mask.

Can I sleep on my side with the X30i?

Yes. With the elbow up on the crown of your head, nothing sits beside your cheek for the pillow to push against. ResMed designed it so you can sleep in whatever position you like without losing the seal.

Should I choose the AirFit X30i or the AirTouch F30i?

Pick the X30i if you like the feel of nasal pillows and want a silicone mask. The AirTouch F30i trades the pillows for a single fabric-covered cushion under your nose. Both use the same frame and headgear, and their cushions swap between them.

Do I need a prescription to buy this mask?

No. Masks don't need a prescription, so you can order this one straight away. We only ask for a prescription with CPAP machines and ventilators, before they ship.
