Overview
The ResMed AirFit N30i rests a soft silicone cradle under your nose instead of over it, so there's no pressure on the bridge and nothing blocking your view. Your hose attaches above your crown, which leaves you free to turn over, read or settle face down.
Night to night, it's quick to live with. The frame and headgear slip on like a cap, the frame adjusts itself to your face, and a quick-release elbow means you can leave bed without taking the mask off. The elbow swivels a full circle, too.
Key features:
- Fitting kit included: The starter pack brings Small, Small-Wide and Medium cushions, so you can find your best seal without ordering twice.
- Two frame sizes: Choose a Small or Standard frame, and ResMed's simple rule tells you which one fits your head.
- Elbow stays on the tube: Unclip the elbow and it stays attached to your tubing, so no small part goes missing in the night.
- Easy to fit: In ResMed's own studies, nine in ten people found the N30i very easy to fit and adjust.
- Room to switch: AirFit P30i pillows and AirTouch N30i fabric cushions click into the same frame if your needs change.
- Licensed in Canada: Its Health Canada licence is Class II, and you'll find the number with the other details under Specifications.
The AirFit N30i suits nose breathers who move around at night, sleep on their stomach or share a bed, and anyone who wears glasses. It doesn't work with the AirMini, so travellers should look at the AirFit N20, which connects through ResMed's setup pack.
Note: The AirFit N30i is not compatible with the AirMini travel machine. If you use an AirMini, ask us about a nasal mask that is.
How it works
Putting it on
Pull the frame and headgear over your head like a cap, so the elbow sits on top and the headgear sits behind. Settle the cradle under your nose, then loosen or tighten the headgear until it feels comfortable.
If air escapes at the side or top of the cushion, take it off and refit it. Keep the headgear relaxed, since overtightening can cause redness around the cushion. If you have long hair, a high ponytail passes through the back of the headgear.
Cleaning it
After each use, wash the cushion and its vent, which slides out for cleaning. Soak them in warm water with mild liquid detergent, brush the vent holes gently, rinse, shake the vent dry and leave everything to air-dry out of sunlight.
Once a week, give the frame, elbow and headgear the same wash, squeezing the fabric parts in a towel. Skip the dishwasher, washing machine and iron, and leave out ozone or UV devices, as ResMed hasn't validated them for this mask.
Additional information
The AirFit N30i is a nasal cradle mask, not a nasal pillow mask. The distinction matters before you order. A nasal cradle cushion seals from below the nose; a nasal pillow cushion inserts into the nostrils. This starter pack includes one SpringFit frame in your chosen size (Standard or Small), headgear, the quick-release elbow, and nasal cradle cushions in three sizes (Small, Small Wide and Medium), so you can identify the correct cushion fit before committing to a single size for future replacements. ResMed also makes a Wide cushion, sold separately. This page is for patients who have not worn the N30i before, or who need a new frame and headgear along with their cushions. Patients who prefer nasal pillows that seal inside the nostrils should see the AirFit P30i Starter Pack instead.
How the nasal cradle seal works
The N30i cushion sits under the base of the nose rather than over it, and nothing enters the nostrils. Its curved shape has thicker side walls for stability, a thinner, soft centre, and a septum bridge membrane designed to give a stable seal at the tip of the nose.
How this differs from nasal pillows
Nasal pillow cushions sit inside the nostrils. The N30i cradle seals from below, never entering the nostrils. If you would rather have pillows, the AirFit P30i Starter Pack uses the same frame, elbow and headgear.
SpringFit frame and top-of-head tube
The SpringFit frame carries therapy air from the hose connection at the top of the head down each side of the face to the cushion, and ResMed designed it to adjust automatically to different facial profiles. With the hose at the top of the head, ResMed suggests the N30i for people who sleep in different positions, including on the stomach. The elbow rotates 360 degrees, and squeezing its two side buttons disconnects the hose without removing the headgear, which is useful for nighttime bathroom trips.
Venting
Exhaled air leaves through vents in the cushion and the elbow.
Choosing your frame size
Frame size, Standard or Small, is separate from cushion size. ResMed's rule: a frame that slides back toward your ears calls for Small, and one that slides forward toward your eyes calls for Standard. If you have worn this mask before and know your frame size, select it here.
Finding your cushion size
This starter pack includes three cushion sizes (Small, Small Wide and Medium) so you can identify your correct fit before committing to a single size for future replacements. Cushion size is based on the width of your nose. ResMed's printable fitting template has two notched gauges, one for Small and Medium and one for Small Wide and Wide, that you hold under your nose. If you haven't worn this mask before, the starter pack is the natural first purchase.
Once you know your size
Once you have identified your correct cushion size from this starter pack, future replacements should be ordered as single-size cushions rather than another starter pack. Order the size confirmed by your starter pack trial.
Cleaning and replacement
Clean the cushion and its vent after each use, and the headgear, frame and elbow once a week. ResMed suggests a new cushion each month, a new frame system every 3 months and new headgear every 6 months.
Machine compatibility
The AirFit N30i is not compatible with the ResMed AirMini. On the AirSense 10 and AirSense 11, choose the Pillows mask setting.

Features and fit
Picking Small or Standard
This is the choice you make when ordering: the N30i comes with a Small or a Standard frame. ResMed's rule of thumb once it's on:
- Slides back or sits close to your ears: choose Small
- Leans toward your eyes or slips forward: choose Standard
- The top can rest further forward or back on your head until it feels right
- Every cushion size clicks into either frame
Sizing by nose width
ResMed's printable template has two notched gauges, one marked S and M, the other SW and W. Hold each under your nose to see where you land:
- Narrower noses suit Small or Medium
- Wider noses suit Small-Wide or Wide
- Wide isn't in the box, but you can order it on its own
- Air escaping at the side or top means refit before changing size
Frame sleeves and reassembly
The short fabric sleeves on the frame arms stay on for good, since they aren't removable. ResMed says a little pilling or fraying won't change how the mask performs.
- If a sleeve twists, reposition it while the fabric is wet
- Line up the arrows on the cushion and frame when you click them back together
- The same headgear fits the AirFit P30i and AirTouch N30i
Setting up your machine
Set the mask type to Pillows on ResMed's AirSense, AirCurve and S9 machines, even though the N30i is a cradle. It runs on both CPAP and bilevel therapy.
- No AirMini option: ResMed lists the N30i as not compatible
- AirFit P30i pillows and AirTouch N30i fabric cushions fit this frame
- Replacement cushions, frame systems and headgear can be bought individually

Cradle cushion
Your nose bridge stays free of pressure, because the soft silicone cradle sits underneath it. ResMed shaped it to avoid top-of-nose discomfort and leave your view wide open.
Overhead hose
Turn over as often as you like. The tubing attaches above your crown and stays clear while you move, and with nothing in front of your face, you can sleep closer to a partner.
Starter pack
Your first box doubles as a fitting kit. Small, Small-Wide and Medium cushions all come with the frame, so you can try them at home and keep the one that seals best.
Slip-on fit
Putting it on is as easy as pulling on a cap, and the springy frame adjusts to the shape of your face by itself. Soft fabric sleeves cover the frame where it meets your cheeks.
Common questions
How often should I replace the N30i cushion?
ResMed's suggested schedule is a cushion each month, the frame system each quarter and the headgear twice a year. Replace any part sooner if you see it crack, craze or tear.
What mask setting does the N30i use?
Pillows. That surprises people, since this is a cradle cushion, but ResMed's guide and compatibility list both specify Pillows for the AirFit N30i on its AirSense, AirCurve and S9 machines.
Can I sleep on my stomach with the N30i?
Yes. Stomach sleepers, people who move around at night and anyone sharing a bed are the three groups ResMed names for this mask. The tube attaches up on your crown, so it's well clear of the pillow as you turn.
Will the N30i work if I wear glasses?
Yes. ResMed calls it perfect if you wear glasses or like the TV on in bed, since the cradle rests below your nostrils and nothing crosses your line of sight.
Does the N30i suit mouth breathers?
Not usually. A cradle cushion seals only around your nostrils, so it needs your mouth closed to do its job. If you often wake up dry-mouthed, a full face mask such as the AirFit F20 is likely the better fit.
Do I need a prescription to buy this mask?
No. Masks don't need a prescription, so you can order this one straight away. We only ask for a prescription with CPAP machines and ventilators, before they ship.
